Results

Los Angeles, Calif. - This past weekend the LMU men's tennis team traveled to Marks Stadium where they faced no. 1 ranked USC for their first match of the 2010 spring season. Up against the number one team in the country, the Lions were swept in singles play, however were highlighted by doubles win by senior duo, Borja Malet and Renzo Maggi.

In doubles play, seniors Borja Malet and Renzo Maggi clinched the Lion's only victory for the day against the top ranked Trojans. They senior duo defeated USC's Kecki/Poldma 8-4 to win the no. 2 doubles spot. In other doubles play, Ivan Lopez and Otto Sauer fell 8-6 to USC's #13 ranked Farah/Johnson at the no. 1 position while sophomores Geza Bazula and Jack Zapala also put up a good fight at the no. 3 doubles position. Coach Brad Sceney commented that up against the no. 1 ranked USC, "We really challenged them in doubles and pushed the limits. Renzo and Borjah's win is evidence of this effort; they played very well together and made a lot of smart plays."

Senior Borjah Mallet said this about he and Maggi's win for the weekend, "With all the rain this last week, we really didn't have a chance to practice, so we really had to play by the rules and just execute our shots. They are the no. 1 team in the country and doubles was where we really had a shot against them, however our focus really is on this weekend when our real season starts."

In singles play, the Lion's were swept by the top ranked Trojans 7-0. However the LMU racquet men are ready to bounce back and focused on preparing for their conference play that starts on Saturday against University of San Francisco at 12:00 pm at the LMU Tennis Center.
