LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Cassady Moore has become the third LMU player to sign a professional contract in the last two years, inking a deal with Chemnitz Chemcats of the German Second Division. Moore, who graduated from LMU this past spring, joins Amanda DeCoud (Finland) and Ashlee Dunlap (Australia) as former Lions who are currently playing overseas.
Moore (Long Beach, Calif.) recently concluded a stellar four-year collegiate career at LMU, having earned Honorable Mention All-West Coast Conference honors in her senior year. She averaged a career-high 11.4 points per game in 2008-09 while leading the Lions in assists (3.0 per game) and steals (2.5 per game). Moore finished her career eighth all-time at LMU with 187 steals.
"This is a fantastic opportunity for Cassady to realize her dream of playing professional basketball and of living overseas," LMU Head Coach Julie Wilhoit said. "I feel that LMU has prepared her for this experience and she will represent the Lions well. We are all extremely proud of her."
Chemnitz, located approximately 160 miles south of the German capital Berlin, went 6-16 last year to place 11th in the 12-team German Bundesliga DBBL First Division. Under league rules, the bottom teams are demoted to the 24-team Second Division the next season. Moore will be one of two Americans permitted on the Chemnitz roster. She will depart for Germany in August in preparation for the league's start in late September.
