Marina del Rey, CA - The annual Battle of Ballona Creek between UCLA and LMU went to the Bruins on Saturday as UCLA took four out of the five races in Marina del Rey. The Lions' victory came on the men's side, as the novice 8 held off two UCLA boats.
In the men's novice 8 race, LMU rowed the course in 5:59.1, outpacing the first UCLA boat (6:10.34) by 11 seconds. UCLA's second boat finished in 6:33.97.
The Lions almost pulled off a win in the men's varsity 8, finishing second out of three in 5:45.82. UCLA's first boat won by just three seconds in 5:42.3 while the second Bruin varsity 8 timed in at 6:03.77.
On the women's side, UCLA swept all three races. The varsity 4 proved the closest, as UCLA's 7:01.03 barely edged LMU's 7:06.83.
