Box Score

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - LMU's superstar, Rafael Baca continued his stellar play and scoring his seventh goal of the season for the Lions against the Gonzaga Bulldogs this Friday in Spokane, Wash. However despite Baca's efforts and the Lion's competitive play with a total of 14 shots and 9 corner kick opportunities, the Bulldogs take home their first conference win giving the Lion's their first conference loss 2-1 in OT of the season.

The Lion's started strong, controlling the pace of the game for the first half, with 5 shots on goal while Lion goalie Max Young posted 3 saves. The Bulldogs posted similar efforts with 5 shots on goal and 3 saves for Bulldog goalie Scott Barnum. However, despite the Lion's ball control and poise they entered into the second half scoreless tied at 0-0.

In the second half, the Lion's outshot the Bulldogs 9 to 7 and had four more corner kicks with a total of 6. Things were looking up for the Lions when with just over ten minutes into the second half, Rafael Baca posted his 7th goal of the season beating out Gonzaga's goalie Scott Barnum on the right side to score for the Lions and give them the lead.

Gonzaga however struck right back and in the 73 minute of play, Nick Love scored his second goal of the season assisted by Nick Barclay tying the game up. When the Lions did not answer, they entered overtime, tied 1-1.

Only five minutes into overtime play, the Bulldog's Tye Perdido slipped in a quick header past the Lion's goalie Max Young to win the match. This game leaves the Lions 1-1 in conference play and with their first loss against a conference opponent. Head Coach Paul Krumpe commented on the Lion's game: "It's a game we should of won, we didn't finish our chances and let them back into the game. We had many opportunities, to score--two even three more goals--and we were just not able to do that...somehow we let them back in."

The Lion's will finish their conference play for this weekend travelling to Portland, Oregon to play the No. 16 Pilots this Sunday at 12:00pm.
