San Bruno, Calif. - WCC Live will be back on the air on Wednesday Oct. 28th beginning at 8 p.m. to begin a four part series previewing the men's and women's basketball seasons. The first episode of the series will feature LMU Men's Basketball Head Coach Max Good and preseason All-WCC selection, sophomore Jarred DuBois. The series will feature coaches from across the league as well as prominent student-athletes.
Also appearing on part I of the series will be Women's Head Coach Tanya Haave and sophomore guard Rheina Ale from San Francisco and Women's Head Coach Jennifer Mountain and junior forward Lena Gipson from Santa Clara. On the men's side, Head Coach Tom Asbury and junior forward Mychel Thompson of Pepperdine.
Coach Good fields a team that returns three starters and also the top four scorers from last year's squad in his second year as head coach. DuBois scored an LMU freshman record 417 points last season en route to All-WCC freshman team honors and returns as the team's leading scorer (13.5). His 39 points against Cal State Bakersfield set a new LMU freshman single-game scoring record and were the most by any WCC player last season.
Coach Haave returns a young squad from a team that had 36% of its scoring come from the freshmen last season, all of who return this year. She spent the summer with her team playing top teams from Sweden, Norway, and Denmark. Of the freshmen, Ale made the biggest impact as the team's second leading scorer and will return as the leader in scoring (10.1 ppg) and three-pointers (39).
Coach Mountain also fields a young team that features eight freshmen, but also returns three starters from last season. In her first season at the helm, she led the team to a second round appearance in last year's WCC Tournament. Gipson is one of the most dominating players in the league as she led the league in rebounding (9.9 rpg) and almost averaged a double-double for the season with her team-leading 13.6 ppg.
Coach Asbury is also in his second year at the helm, although this is his second time around with the team. The Waves have the second most returning letterwinners in the WCC with 12, the most in program history. Thompson will serve as a team captain this year and was the second leading scorer (9.6) on the squad last season, while tying for the lead in three-pointers (35).
