Men's Basketball

Madness, Crimson-Navy Game Highlight Action Packed Week

Oct. 20, 2009

LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- It will be a full week on the LMU campus with men's basketball taking center stage with a pair of events to tip-off the 2009-10 season. It will also include key match-ups for the fall sport programs, all taking place on the bluff.

Madness at Midnight will be the signature event and will hit Gersten Pavilion on Friday, Oct. 23 at 10:30 p.m. The event has become one of the largest attended by the student body. The Lions will then return to Gersten Pavilion for the Crimson-Navy game and a pre-scrimmage free BBQ on Saturday, Oct. 24.

It will be a busy day at Gersten Pavilion on Saturday. The Lions will host middle school and elementary school students through the LMU Cares community service program. The students along with all Lion fans are then welcome to join the men's basketball team for a pre-scrimmage BBQ at 3 p.m. The BBQ is free and players will help serve and be available for all fans to get to know them one-on-one.

The Crimson-Navy scrimmage will follow the BBQ at around 4:00 p.m. Fans will get their first look at the 2009-10 Lions.

Prior to all BBQ and scrimmage, fans should come check-out the women's volleyball team taking on San Francisco on Saturday at 1 p.m. In addition, they can be part of a good cause. The game will raise funds for the fight against breast cancer as part of the NCAA's Dig Pink campaign.

This year marks the third consecutive year that LMU has hosted a match to raise awareness and funds for the fight against breast cancer. Donations will be accepted at the match, which will benefit the Side-Out Foundation. Or, donations can be made on-line by visiting LMU's team page at www.side-out.org/application/teams/team_page/1213.

The whole week begins when the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) will host an "all-you-can-eat" pasta night this Wednesday, October 21 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. in Ahmanson North on the campus of LMU. The cost for the dinner, which serves as a fundraiser for SAAC and is open to anyone, is $9.99. Payments can be made at the door via cash and OneCard transactions.

There is more as the women's volleyball team hosts Santa Clara on Thursday, Oct. 22 at 7 p.m. Thursday, however, will start with a huge water polo match-up as the sixth-ranked Lion will take on the fourth-ranked Bruins of UCLA. The game is at 3:00 pm at the Burns Aquatics Center.

The week ends with another big match-up, this one in the race for the WCC men's soccer title. The Lions will host undefeated San Diego on Sunday at 3:00 p.m. It is the Pack Sullivan game as the Lions attempt to set the attendance record at Sullivan.
