Michael Glomb has a bachelor's degree in business and a master's in education.

Pretty impressive for a 23-year old.

But the Long Beach Armada infielder is putting off instant security as a financial adviser to play for the Golden Baseball League minimum salary while chasing his dream of becoming a major league baseball player.

Glomb played four years at Loyola Marymount University, and after failing to get drafted, he immersed himself into calling and writing scouts and organizations to find a place to play.

Nearly halfway through this season, Glomb reached Steve Bash, the Armada general manager at the time, and set up a tryout. He signed that night with Long Beach.

Since then, the lanky Northern California native has 31 hits in 42 games, has driven in 21 runs and is second on the team with 11 stolen bases despite playing 30 fewer games than teammate Norm Hutchins, who has 13 steals.

Glomb is earning just $500 a month, but doesn't think twice about continuing his baseball career.

"I have the rest of my life to work, but I can't play baseball at 50," Glomb said. "I know it's a one-in-a-million shot to make the big leagues, but it's worth that shot to me."
