Men's Tennis Signs Final Recruits

Aug. 15, 2008

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - LMU men's tennis head coach Brad Sceney put the finishing touches on his recruiting class, signing two more outstanding freshmen players, it was announced earlier this week.

Aram Abgaryan (Calabasas, Calif.) and Geza Bazula (Budapest, Hungary) have been named the final two recruits to agree to attend and play for the Lions this season. The two players join Matt Hall and Borja Malet to complete the four-player recruiting class.

Abgaryan, a 6'4" freshman, ranked in the top-25 in Southern California during his high school career. With his heavy game and athletic frame, he has the chance and potential to make an immediate impact at the college level.

Noted for his athletic build, a big serve and a strong baseline game, Sceney expects Abgaryan to help the Lions tremendously. "It is great to be getting some local talent into the program, and I believe that Aram has an exciting future here at LMU."

Bazula was ranked No. 2 in Hungary as a Junior tennis player and also spent some time in Texas, where he was a top-10 player in that section. Considered an "aggressive baseline player" by Sceney, Bazula has already recorded impressive victories over current college players while playing in Texas as a Junior tennis player.

"We are ecstatic to be announcing Geza's arrival," Sceney said. "He has a ready-made mentality for college tennis, and also ranks his fitness as a high priority. He is very driven to succeed, and we are looking forward to a very successful college career from Geza."

All four recruits join a Lion squad that finished 11-13 overall, 4-4 in the WCC last year. LMU was impressive in home matches last season, toting an 8-4 mark at the LMU Tennis Center.

"We have now added four players to the roster and have incredible depth on our team," Sceney stated. "With some hard work in front of us, we look to make a climb in the WCC and the NCAA rankings this season and in the future."
