Temp, ARIZ (April 5) -- Break out the brooms. The Loyola Marymount University women's water polo completed a sweep of the Arizona State Desert Challenge with a 7-4 win over ninth-ranked San Jose State on Saturday afternoon.

The win is the first in nine tries against the Spartans in program history. It is also the Lions 11th straight, adding on to their school record. They improve to 18-7 on the season.

The Lions come back from the desert with a clean sweep of three teams ranked in the top-20. LMU also defeated 19th-ranked Arizona State and 12th-ranked Michigan in the tournament.

LMU's defense has been stellar in the streak. For the sixth game in a row the Lions went to the halftime break holding the opponent scoreless. The offense for the Lions, which has been balanced during the streak, came down to a pair of juniors. Devon Wright had her best offensive game as a Lion with four goals and Teresa Guidi had three goals for the Lions.

With a 4-0 lead in the first half, three of which were from Wright, the Lions would have it cut in half in the third quarter on two goals by Beth Harberts.

Guidi would answer with two of the next three goals to pull away.

The Lions play conference rival UC San Diego on April 11 at the Burns Recreation and Aquatics Center.
