Los Angeles, Calif. - Loyola Marymount designated hitter and left-handed pitcher Joshua Whitesell has been tabbed as the West Coast Conference/Rawlings Player of the Month for February. This follows his WCC Player of the Week honor on March 4.
Whitesell posted a .371 batting average (13-for-35) in the month of February, second highest on the team. He leads the team with seven doubles and two homeruns, with 11 RBI and a team-leading on-base percentage (.529, with a team-high eight walks) and slugging percentage (.725).
The junior from Rialto, Calif., has also made two appearances on the mound as one of only two left-handed LMU pitchers. He threw 3.2 innings, allowing just two earned runs (4.91 ERA), with three strikeouts and one walk.
The Lions (9-5 overall, 0-0 WCC) return to action this afternoon when they host UC Santa Barbara for the first of a three-game series at 2 p.m.
