Four Lions Listed in Collegiate Tennis Western Regional Rankings

Los Angeles, Calif. - For the first time in school history, four members of the Loyola Marymount University men's tennis team are listed in the Omni Hotels Collegiate Tennis Western Regional Rankings. Tigran Martirosyan is ranked 15th individually, while Martirosyan and Johannes Asuja are ranked ninth in doubles. LMU's doubles team of Leopold Graeubig and Michael Wojnarowicz is ranked 14th.

At the the Southern California Intercollegiate Championships, Martirosyan defeated Quinn Borchard of Portland (7-5,6-1) in the round of 32, before receiving a default from Fresno State's Stefan Suta in the round of 16. Martirosyan won in quarterfinal match 7-6,6-3 over Jorgan Arneson of San Francisco, before succumbing to Johan Berg of USC 6-3,6-3 in the semifinal. Berg is ranked 11th in the regional ranking.

Martirosyan finished the fall season 11-5 overall, including five wins at the ITA All-American Championships. In addition to his performance at the Southern California Intercollegiate Championships, he also advanced to the semifinal at the San Diego Collegiate Tournament.

Martirosyan and Asuja lost in the semifinals of the Southern California Intercollegiate Championships 8-6 to No. 2 seed Jon Endrikat and Brian Morton of UC Irvine. Endrikat and Morton are ranked fourth in the regional ranking.

Martirosyan and Asura finished the fall season at 7-2 overall.

Graeubig and Wojnarowicz competed in only one event, but finished 3-1, defeating Morton and Endrikat from UC Irvine.

The Lions will next be in action when they travel to the Sunny Hills Intercollegiate on Dec. 26 in Sunny Hills, Calif.
