Matt Casana has been a dedicated member of LMU’s Athletic Academic Advising staff since 2003. He currently supports the academic success of student-athletes on the baseball, men’s soccer, and men’s water polo teams.

As the Senior Associate Athletic Director for Academic Support Services, Matt oversees the entire Athletic Academic Advising unit and manages the support staff within the department. In addition to his advising duties, he serves as LMU Athletics’ Housing Liaison and Book Scholarship Coordinator and is a member of the Athletics Senior Staff, playing a key role in department-wide leadership and decision-making.

Matt holds a bachelor’s degree in Communications from California State University, Fullerton, where he was an active member—and later president—of Sigma Nu Fraternity. He earned his Master of Arts in Sports and Fitness Management from the University of San Francisco in 2002.

Before transitioning into academic support, Matt spent more than a decade coaching tennis at both the high school and collegiate levels. His coaching career included stops at Rowland High School, El Dorado High School, Brea Olinda High School, the University of New Hampshire, and Occidental College.

Outside of LMU, Matt is passionate about travel and has visited numerous destinations across the U.S. and around the world, including Spain, Australia, France, New Zealand, Croatia, and Thailand. He’s also completed over 250 miles on the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage walk in Spain. When not traveling, he enjoys exploring his native Southern California and spending time with his two pups, Macallan and Huntley (a.k.a. Lyle and Erik).

A proud alumnus of John A. Rowland High School, Matt continues to give back to his alma mater by serving on the Rowland High School Educational Foundation Board and staying involved in alumni events. A third-generation Southern Californian, Matt now lives in his childhood home—a meaningful connection to his family and roots.
