The LMU softball team welcomes a new assistant coach, Bianca Mejia, for the upcoming 2023-2024 season. Mejia will work alongside Coach Tairia Flowers aiming to secure another championship for The Bluff.
"I'm extremely excited to join Coach Flower's staff and continue the championship pedigree she has created over the years," said Mejia. "I'm pumped to get to work with the hitters!"
Mejia and Coach Flowers are well-acquainted with each other's coaching methods, as they previously collaborated at CSUN back in 2012. During their time together, Mejia served as the volunteer assistant coach and director of softball operations, overseeing team travel, video analysis, and recruitment efforts for the program.
Prior to her role at LMU, Mejia served as an assistant coach at Bryant University from 2014 to 2015. During her tenure at Bryant, Mejia was crucial in steering the Bulldogs to their inaugural Northeast Conference Championship victory and securing their spot in the NCAA Tournament. Following her time at Bryant, Mejia continued her coaching journey at Dartmouth.
Mejia is from Sylmar, CA and attended Long Island University, where she was Northeast Conference Player of the Year in 2009 and 2010. After college, Mejia was drafted by the National Pro Fastpitch Diamonds in 2011 and was named NPF Defensive Player of the Year during her rookie season.
"We're so excited to bring Bianca to The Bluff," says Flowers. "Her passion and knowledge of the game will be an amazing addition to this staff."
