Financial Aid and On-Campus Resources

This page provides important information and support for student-athletes related to financial aid and campus services. Here you’ll find details about stipends, health insurance, and the book scholarship process, along with helpful links to LMU offices and resources. Whether you have questions about your aid package, need help navigating campus services, or are looking for guidance on academic expenses, this is a great place to start.

Who Qualifies?

  • Student-athletes whose athletic award includes coverage for direct costs (such as tuition, fees, housing, and/or a meal plan) or other expenses related to attendance may be eligible to receive some or all of that value as a stipend payment.

Why Are Stipend Payments Issued?

  • Stipend payments are issued when the value of your athletic award exceeds the charges posted to your student account by LMU Student Accounts.
  • Be aware, any charges still owed to the University will be deducted from a stipend payment.

What Determines the Stipend Amount?

  • The stipend amount varies and depends on factors such as:
    • Whether you live on campus or off campus (and any approved off-campus stipend eligibility),
    • Your meal plan selection, and
    • Whether Other Expenses Related to Attendance (OERA) are included in your award.
  • If your athletic aid does not exceed billed tuition and fees, you are not eligible for a room/board stipend. Athletic aid is awarded after any federal, state, and institutional aid is awarded.

What Other Charges May Be Deducted from a Stipend?

  • Examples of charges that may be deducted from a stipend include:
  • Student health insurance,
  • Tuition refund insurance plan,
  • Parking permits,
  • Fines or tickets,
  • Other discretionary or personal expenses.

What Should I Do If I Have Extra Charges?

  • Review your student account and bill through LMU’s Student Account Center. If you have outstanding charges and believe you were incorrectly charged, contact the Athletics Business Office and/or Athletics Compliance Office.

Where and When Are Stipends Available?

  • Stipends are issued regularly during each academic semester and are disbursed in four monthly stipend payments each semester beginning with the first day of classes
  • Stipends are disbursed by the Student Accounts Office via direct deposit. Ensure you have set-up an eRefund account.

Who can I contact if I have more questions?

  • Contact the Athletics Business Office with questions regarding questions about your student account or stipend amount.
  • Contact the Athletics Compliance Office with questions regarding your athletic financial aid or eligibility for a stipend.

Student-Athletes on a book scholarship are allowed to receive REQUIRED TEXTBOOKS and COURSE MATERIALS.

Book Policy and Procedure

  • Two to three weeks prior to the start of the semester the Associate Athletic Director will receive a list of the student-athletes who will receive a Book Scholarship listing.   This list will be provided by the LMU Athletic Compliance Office.
  • The Associate Athletic Director, Athletic Academic Advising will provide the bookstore with a list of all the student-athletes (their LMU ID), what team they are on (for billing purposes), and what classes each student is enrolled in.
  • The bookstore will pull and bundle the required books only for each student-athlete for all of his/her enrolled classes and charge the team account.
  • The Associate Athletic Director, Athletic Academic Advising will pick up all book orders and distribute the books through the student’s Athletic Academic Advisor.
  • If a book needs to be orderd through a different online platform, the Athletic Academic Advisor will work with the student in placing this order and paying for the book or materials.
  • Textbooks listed as “Optional” or “Suggested” are NOT covered by an athletics book’s scholarship per NCAA Rules.

Pick-up protocol
