Mission Statement
The mission of the LMU Sports Performance department is to optimize athletic performance as a means to prepare each student-athlete for the physical and mental rigors of Division I competition. We are committed to providing every student-athlete with effective evidenced-based training, a positive high-energy environment and a challenging, yet safe, training experience. At our core, we are educators teaching our student-athletes fundamentally sound training techniques in the areas of power, strength, speed & agility, mobility & stability, energy system development and recovery. Above all else, we are devoted to developing honorable men and women and instilling in them the confidence, discipline, work ethic, teamwork and skills necessary to succeed in life.

Culture Code
LMU Sports Performance hits the ground running with the LMU Lions Sports Teams. The first order of business is to introduce the newcomers to, and remind the returners of, what it means to do things the Lion Way. The Weight Room whiteboard defines our Code of Conduct, which includes our Ground Rules, Conditions for Attitude and our Core Values.  Every Student-Athlete is asked to Learn them, Believe in them, and Live by them. To be Lion Strong means we are all disciplined, detailed and dedicated to everything we do and the way we do it! #LionUp

Training Philosophy
The LMU Sports Performance training philosophy is designed to optimize athletic performance while in turn reducing the risk for injury.  Our system of training focuses on utilizing ground-based multi joint exercises and sport-specific multi-planar movement patterns. Performance enhancement is achieved with the following programming prescription:

  1. Systematic annual periodization
  2. Sport-Specific needs analysis and assessment
  3. Fundamentally sound exercise selection and prescription
  4. Variable training volumes and intensities inducing progressive overload
  5. Reliable and safe testing protocols to assess progress

Coaching Philosophy
We stand by our training methodologies to assist in maximizing each athletes’ athletic potential in their respective sport… What we do is important, but pales in comparison to the way we do it. Our coaching philosophies are a fine balance of tough love which demand high standards, expect hard work, enforce accountability, and demonstrate integrity. We ask our athletes not to settle for mediocrity, but instead commit to excellence in everything that they do.  On a daily basis our student-athletes are challenged to be selfless for the greater good of the team and relentless in their pursuit of greatness. As leaders, we practice what we preach modeling our expectations in all that we do professionally and personally.  Detailed, disciplined and dedicated hard work may not always guarantee success, but it will certainly increase your chances to be successful.  Ultimately, it is our belief that “the way you do anything is the way you do everything…” A motto that holds true in sport, but more importantly in life after sport.
