Lions Sweep Sunday Slate as Harvell Walks Off UCSB; Flowers Reaches 402 Wins

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - LMU softball capped off Opening Weekend in dramatic and dominant fashion, sweeping its Sunday doubleheader with a 9-1 run-rule win over Utah Tech and a thrilling 2-1 walk-off victory against UC Santa Barbara at Smith Field. The pair of wins lifts the Lions to 5-1 on the season and pushes Head Coach Tairia Flowers to 402 career victories, after reaching her 400th career win milestone during Saturday's triumph over Northern Colorado.

GAME 1: LMU 9, Utah Tech 1 (5 innings)

LMU's offense surged early and never relented, piling up nine runs on nine hits in a five-inning run-rule win over Utah Tech.

After falling behind 1-0 in the first, the Lions exploded for three runs in the second, powered by an RBI single from Cristina Jones, aggressive baserunning from Mya Allen, and a productive groundout by Avery Francis that brought another run home. LMU added insurance in every remaining inning, highlighted by Analiah Lummus' RBI double down the right-field line in the third, Izzy Jamgotchian's two-run double in the fourth, and a three-run fifth inning fueled by timely walks, a wild pitch, and a sacrifice fly. Francis, Jones, and Lummus all recorded multi-hit games, while seven different Lions drove in at least one run.

In the circle, Lindsay O'Dell dominated in relief, tossing 4.0 shutout innings with four strikeouts, allowing just two hits to earn the win and improve to 2-0. LMU held Utah Tech to just four hits and one run.

GAME 2: LMU 2, UC Santa Barbara 1 - Harvell Walks It Off in the Seventh

The nightcap turned into a pitcher's duel, but the Lions delivered late-game magic to close out Opening Weekend.

After five scoreless innings, Izzy Jamgotchian broke the deadlock with a solo home run to right field in the sixth, her second homer of the weekend. UCSB answered with a solo homer of its own in the top of the seventh, tying the game at 1-1.

But LMU refused to let the day end quietly.

With two outs in the bottom of the seventh, Avery Francis singled up the middle and immediately stole second, advancing to third on an errant throw. That set the stage for Sakora Harvell, who roped a sharp single up the middle to plate Francis and deliver a walk-off winner, sealing a 2-1 victory and sending the Lions' dugout into celebration.

Harvell and Francis each finished with two hits, while Jamgotchian supplied the power.

Jessie Gilbert earned the win after 3.1 strong innings, striking out three and allowing just one run. LMU's pitching staff, Gilbert paired with Sara Pinedo, held the Gauchos to just five hits all afternoon.

Coach Tairia Flowers Hits Milestone Weekend

Across the two-game sweep, LMU achieved more than just strong performances. Head Coach Tairia Flowers, now in her 16th season, closed the day with 402 career wins. She entered Sunday having reached the 400-win milestone the previous day in the win over Northern Colorado, adding two more victories to cap a memorable opening weekend for the program.

Next, the Lions will hit the road to face CBU on Thursday, February 12 at 6:00 p.m.
