LMU Blanks Hawaii 6-0 Behind Poole’s Three-RBI Night

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - The LMU softball team closed out their weekend in Riverside in commanding fashion Saturday night, blanking Hawaii 6-0 at John C. Funk Stadium to improve to 10-1 on the season.

The Lions struck immediately in the bottom of the first to seize momentum. Avery Francis ignited the offense with a leadoff single, and Sydney Poole followed with a double to put two runners in scoring position. LMU capitalized on a Hawaii miscue, as a fielding error allowed two unearned runs to cross the plate and gave the Lions an early 2-0 cushion.

The Lions continued to apply pressure in the second inning with disciplined at-bats and timely contact. Justine Lambert dropped down a bunt single to start the frame and later came around to score on a fielder's choice from Izzy Jamgotchian. Moments later, Poole delivered again, ripping an RBI double to left field to extend the lead to 4-0.

The decisive push came in the fourth. Lambert and Mya Allen recorded back-to-back singles to set the table, and Jamgotchian worked a walk to load the bases. With two outs, Poole came through in the clutch, lining a two-run single to center to make it 6-0 and cap the scoring. Poole finished a standout night 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two doubles, accounting for half of LMU's runs driven in. Lambert added a two-hit performance with two runs scored, while Francis also collected two hits as the Lions totaled nine on the evening.

In the circle, LMU was just as dominant. Starter Angela Carrera worked 3.1 scoreless innings, allowing only two hits while striking out four and keeping Hawaii off balance early. Lindsay O'Dell entered in relief and was electric, tossing 3.2 shutout innings, surrendering just one hit and striking out four to earn her sixth win of the season and move to 6-0. Together, the duo limited Hawaii to just three hits and struck out eight without allowing a run.

Defensively, the Lions were sharp and steady, committing zero errors and turning 10 ground-ball outs to keep the Rainbow Wahine from mounting any momentum. From the first pitch to the final out, LMU controlled the tempo, showcasing balanced offense, lockdown pitching, and clean defense in a complete shutout performance to wrap up the weekend.

Up next, the Lions will shift their focus to their upcoming weekend in Palm Springs as they prepare for another competitive slate. LMU opens tournament play on Friday, February 20 at 5:30 PM against Rutgers University, looking to carry their strong momentum and 10-1 start into the next stretch of non-conference action.
