Game Recap: Women's Water Polo |

Lions Move to 5-0 in Conference for Best Start Since Joining GCC in 2014

LOS ANGELES – No. 6 LMU women's water polo has won the first five games of conference play for the first time since joining the Golden Coast Conference in 2014. The Lions defeated San Diego State, 12-10, in the penultimate home game on Saturday at Burns Aquatics Center.

The game started close as San Diego State scored the opening goal and then again to tie the score at 2-2. Yanah Gerber and Ruth Arino scored early in the period, and then Noa Sasover and Skye Nankervis scored late to give LMU a 4-2 lead after one period.

The lead grew to 6-2 as Gerber and Sasover scored in the opening two and a half minutes of the third quarter. San Diego State's Claudia Valdes scored the next three goals to pull the Aztecs within a goal. SDSU tied the game with 31 seconds before the half to bring the score to 6-6.

The Lions scored the first four goals of the second half to reestablish the lead. Arino Ruiz scored twice to start up the second half, including converting a penalty shot. Lior Ben David and Noa Sasover increased the lead to four goals before the Aztecs scored one in the period's closing minute.

Sasover opened the fourth quarter with a goal on LMU's first possession. San Diego State scored three of the final four goals, with only Gerber converting for the Lions, to pull within two goals with 1:57 to play. The Lions prevented the Aztecs from getting any closer to win the game, 12-10.

Inbar Geva played the first 16 minutes in the cage and recorded four saves. Madison Davis closed the game with the final 16 minutes to earn the win behind her six saves.

The Lions will play a road game next for the first time in over a month. LMU will travel to Riverside to play at CBU on April 13 before closing the season at home on April 20.
