LOS ANGELES – In Sunday's series finale, the Lions secured a 4-0 win over the Santa Clara Broncos and took the series, 3-1.
The game kicked off with both
Jenna Perez and the Broncos' Edwards delivering stellar performances in the first inning, holding their respective teams to a scoreless tie. However, the Lions broke the deadlock in the bottom of the second inning when
Lauryn Carter's powerful double to right center brought
Adele Braun home.
Maintaining their momentum, the Lions added another run in the third inning courtesy of
Mika Chong's RBI single up the middle, extending their lead to 2-0.
Perez continued to dominate on the mound, shutting out the Broncos as the game progressed into the fifth inning, allowing only two hits.
During the bottom of the fifth inning,
Jasmine Sofowora earned a walk, securing first base for the Lions. Even after the Broncos made a pitching change, the Lions seized the moment, as
Hayley Olivas' single to right center brought both Sofowora and
Madalie Gomez home.
Although Santa Clara made a late effort in the seventh inning with two hits, they were unable to convert, sealing the Lions' 4-0 victory.
Izzy Jamgotchian led the Lions defensively with seven putouts, while
Sakora Harvell followed closely with four. Chong showcased her prowess at the plate, finishing with a batting average of .354, while Perez improved her season record to 11-9.
The Lions' next matchup is scheduled for Friday, April 26th, against the Pacific Tigers at Smith Field.
