LOS ANGELES – The Lions fell short in a heartbreaking defeat to the Cal State Fullerton Titans, 9-5.
The Titans got on the board early with a run in the first inning, but that didn't take away from
Jessica Hubbard's great pitching performance.
At the bottom of the inning,
Avery Francis singled to third base and eventually stole to second right before
Lauryn Carter took on 13 pitches that finally led to a walk. A couple of batters later,
Arianna Jaurequi singled to center field, bringing in a run for the Lions, followed by
Adele Braun's single through the right side, which earned two RBIs. The Lions held a 4-1 lead after a lengthy 40-minute first inning.
Although the Titans scored again in the fourth inning, the Lions responded with
Val Pero hitting her first home run of the season, maintaining a four-run lead. The victory seemed promising for LMU until Cal State Fullerton rallied.
The Titans added one run in the fifth, one in the sixth, and an additional five in the seventh, ultimately overcoming the Lions and securing the victory.
Looking ahead, the Lions will be back in action this weekend, facing off against Rutgers University at the Mary Nutter Classic.
