Game Recap: Men's Water Polo |

Lions Go Undefeated with Four Wins at Gary Troyer Tournament

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The #16 LMU men's water polo team won two more games on Saturday to go 4-0 at the Gary Troyer Tournament. The Lions won 28-11 in the first game of the day and then closed out the event beating the hosts Occidental, 16-8.
 
Game 1: #16 LMU 28, Fresno Pacific 11
 
Similar to Friday's two games, the Lions never trailed against the Sunbirds. LMU scored all four goals in the first quarter and built up 10-4 lead at halftime. The Lions continued to score more each quarter, putting seven goals on the board in the third, and closing the game with an 11-run fourth quarter.
 
Asher Smith and Baptiste Oliveri led the way with four goals apiece, and Roman Saroyan added a hat trick of his own. Richie Rimlinger, Johnny Mendiburu, Max Diaz, Ryan Boschken, and Abel Romero Corbalan each scored multiple goals. Caden Carpenter, Josiah Yeager, and Jaxon Hoover scored a goal apiece.
 
Finn Friedland added a career-high four assists to his six saves to get the win in the cage.
 
Game 2: #16 LMU 16, Occidental 8
 
LMU build up an 11-0 lead before Occidental scored their first goal. Finn Friedland held a shutout through the game's first 12 and a half minutes and took a 12-2 lead into the half. The Tigers made it closer in the second half, outscoring LMU 3-2 in each of the final two quarters.
 
Friedland recorded double-digit saves and added a steal and assist.
 
Abel Romero Corbalan led the way with a hat trick, and Jonah Allan, Baptiste Oliveri, Patrick Powers, and Roman Saroyan all scoring multiple goals apiece. Nick Leung, Caden Poulleau, Caden Carpenter, Asher Smith, and Max Diaz all scored in the win.

The Lions will return to Burns Aquatics Center to host Westcliff and USC on Friday before UC San Diego comes to the Bluff on Saturday.
