Lions Make a Stunning Comeback Win Against Broncos

SANTA CLARA, CA – Game three between the LMU Lions and the Santa Clara Broncos was an intense matchup that ended in a thrilling comeback win for the Lions, with a final score of 9-6. Throughout most of the game, the Lions found themselves trailing behind the Broncos, but they managed to turn things around in the seventh inning.

The Lions wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, as Sydney Poole took advantage of a passed ball, scoring a run that was unearned. However, the Broncos quickly responded with a run of their own, thanks to a fielder's choice by the Lions. A few batters later, the Broncos added another run with a single to left field, putting the Lions at a 2-1 disadvantage.

In the third inning Logan Caymol came in for Jenna Perez. Despite the change, the Broncos managed to earn two back-to-back runs extending their lead to 4-1.

At the top of the fourth inning, Jasmine Sofowora's double to right center allowing Arianna Jaurequi and Morgan DeBord to score, bringing the Lions within one run of the Broncos.

In the sixth inning, Izzy Jamgotchian delivered a powerful solo home run, narrowing the Broncos' lead even further. However, Santa Clara quickly responded with two more runs in the bottom of the inning, extending their lead to 6-4.

The turning point of the game came in the seventh inning when the Lions started their comeback. Amanda Ta'amu's single to center field brought in an essential run, as Avery Francis crossed the plate. With Poole, Elisa Rosado, and DeBord occupying the bases, the pressure was on Jamgotchian to deliver. She didn't disappoint as she hit a double to right center, clearing the bases and giving the Lions an 8-6 lead. A couple of plays later, Jaurequi's fly out to center field allowed Amanda Treach to score solidifying the Lions victory with, 9-6.

The Lions would win the game and the series, 3-0.

LMU's next game is Friday, May 5, at UCLA against the San Diego State Aztecs at 1:00 PM, followed by a game against the Bruins at 3:30 PM.
