New Doubles Lineup Continues to Pay Off

LOS ANGELES – The new doubles lineup for the LMU men's tennis team continued to roll and the Lions defeated Pacific 4-1 on Saturday afternoon at the LMU Tennis Center to improve to 2-1 in West Coast Conference play.

Head coach Tom Lloyd retooled his lineup starting with the Saint Mary's match on Friday and it continued to pay dividends as the Lions once again took the doubles point to stake themselves to an early lead. Emin Torlic and Arthur Pantino put up a donut on court two with a 6-0 victory before Toky Ranaivo and Yassine Smiej took care of business on court three to win the first point of the match.

The Lions impressed in singles play as well.

Arthur Pantino continued his strong play after being moved up to court one a few weeks ago. The sophomore won in straight sets 6-2, 6-3.

Toky Ranaivo also fared well on court five. The Madagascar international notched a 6-2, 6-3 victory to put the Lions on the verge of victory.

Alvaro Gonzalez was the clincher on court six. Gonzalez won the first set handily 6-1 before dropping the second set 6-4. He clutched up to seal the victory with a 6-2 win in the third set.

The Lions will continue WCC play with a two-match road trip to the northwest. LMU faces the Portland Pilots at 10:00 a.m. (PT) on Thursday, April 6 in Portland, Ore. before heading to Spokane, Wash. for a matchup with Gonzaga on Saturday, April 8.
