LOS ANGELES, CA – The Lions lost in a close, 3-2, game Saturday morning against the Fresno State Bulldogs ending in 11 innings.
Both teams played great defense resulting in zero runs for the first four innings. It wasn't until the fifth inning when Fresno State flied out to left field which caused an unearned run. At the bottom of the inning
Sydney Poole singled through the right side and eventually stole second. A bunt by
Morgan DeBord would advance Poole to third base.
The Lions decided to switch up the lineup and have
Amanda Ta'amu come in as a pinch hitter in hopes of catching up to the Bulldogs. Ta'amu would do just that by sending the ball over the wall for a home run gaining two RBI. The Lions now lead, 2-1.
The game was looking promising for the Lions going into the seventh inning up by one, but the Bulldogs would hit a home run tying up the score, 2-2. LMU finished the inning with zero runs and hits.
The ball game would go into extra innings.
Once again, both teams were amazing on the pitching and defensive end. In the next three innings there would only be two hits which both came from the Lions. After the 10
th inning, the score remained tied, 2-2.
At the top of the 11
th inning, Fresno State grounded out to second base sending a Bulldog back to home plate. The Lions had one more chance to try and comeback but were unsuccessful. The Bulldogs would win, 3-2.
