IRVINE, Calif. - The LMU softball team fell in their season opener to No. 17 Stanford 6-1 on Thursday afternoon in Irvine, Calif.
The Lions took the lead in the second inning when
Morgan DeBord tripled down the right field line.
Val Pero stepped up a batter later and knocked DeBord in with a sacrifice fly to center field.
The Cardinal fought back in the fourth inning to tie things up before taking the lead for good in the fifth.
Jenna Perez took the circle in the season opener and threw 4.1 innings for the Lions, allowing four earned runs and striking out a pair.
Savannah Hooks relieved Perez in the fifth inning and finished the remainder of the game, allowing two runs.
The Lions recorded six hits off Stanford starter Alana Vawter.
In addition to her sac fly, Pero notched a single to lead off the seventh inning to end the game 1-for-2.
Lilliana Thomas went 2-for-3 in her first appearance on the Lions after transferring from Arizona State.
Arianna Jaurequi went 1-for-1 with a double for the Lions other extra base hit. Leadoff hitter
Sydney Poole notched the other hit for the Lions, finishing 1-for-3.
The Lions will get no rest as they continue their season tomorrow, February 10 at 6:00 p.m. (PT) against Cal. A neutral site contest between Cal and San Diego will take place at 3:30 p.m. (PT).
