LMU Maintains Overall GSR of 95, Continues as One of California's Bests

12/6/2023 10:00:00 AM

LMU continued to post strong GSR numbers in the latest announcement from the NCAA on Wednesday, matching the overall mark of 95 set in 2023.

"One of the core tenants of our athletic department is graduation, and our student-athletes have once again achieved," said Athletic Director Craig Pintens. "We are proud to be among the nation's top institutions in Grad Success Rate, as LMU is an institution where you can achieve your athletic and academic goals.  We appreciate the tremendous academic support staff for their outstanding work in helping us maintain the high standard set."

This year marks the 10th straight time in the 17-year history of the metric that LMU has reached or exceeded 90 percent, and the 14th straight year the campus has posted a mark of 88 percent or higher.

GSR data indicates the number of student-athletes earning a degree within six years. The NCAA developed the GSR to more accurately assess the academic success of student-athletes. The Grad Success Rate includes transfer students and student-athletes who leave in good academic standing, unlike the federal rate, which does not count transfers. The GSR also accounts for mid-year enrollees and is calculated for every sport.

The most recent Grad Success Rates are based on the four entering freshmen classes in Division I from 2013 through 2016.

In this most recent data, all 18 LMU teams recorded marks of 86 percent or better. Every one of LMU's teams are above the fed rate.

Eleven LMU teams registered perfect 100 GSR marks, including men's tennis, men's water polo, men's and women's cross country and track, softball, women's volleyball, women's swimming, women's basketball, and women's water polo. The perfect score is the 11th straight for women's water polo, the eighth straight swimming, and the seventh straight for women's cross country and track.

Of the 24 Division I schools in California, LMU's rate of 95 percent is tied for fourth overall with Pepperdine and San Diego, just behind Santa Clara, San Francisco, and Stanford. The West Coast Conference shows well in the GSR standings, as the Lions are one of seven member schools that are at or above 95, and tied for fourth overall.
