Lions Score Late Before Ole Miss Spoils Comeback Bid on Historic Season

LOS ANGELES – The 2022 LMU softball season came to a close on Saturday evening as LMU was eliminated in Game 5 of the Regional. The Lions erased an early deficit by scoring twice in the sixth inning before falling in seven, 4-2.

Despite struggling at the plate for the first five innings, LMU's offense awoke late in the game. Megan Dedrick led off the inning with a double to left center. Dedrick was the only other Lion to record a hit to that point of the game after singling in the third. After Morgan DeBord sacrificed Dedrick to third, Georgia Blair came up with the game-tying single up the middle to put the Lions on the board.

Blair advanced into scoring position on a wild pitch and was replaced by Madalie Gomez to run. After a productive out moved Gomez to third, the freshman Jasmine Sofowora knocked in the go-ahead hit and ended up on third after a pair of errors.

Logan Caymol was called on to start the elimination game for her first action of the regional. Caymol pitched three scoreless innings, allowing just one hit to the Rebels, and striking out two. Caymol returned in the seventh inning to try to finish the game but allowed three hits and charged with three runs. Savannah Hooks closed out the inning and faced the final three batters.

Between Caymol's two appearances, Jenna Perez came in to work the fourth through sixth innings. After working her way out of the Ole Miss fourth, the first run of the game crossed the plate in the fifth inning. A leadoff double and an RBI single in the inning gave the Rebels their first run.

The season ended for the West Coast Conference Champions with a win in the NCAA Tournament and just the third regional in school history.
