Game Recap: Men's Water Polo |

Lions Fall in Semifinals

LOS ANGELES – Blazo Mitrovic scored four goals and Stelios Dalmaras recorded a pair of points, but the LMU water polo team was unable to defeat No. 3 seed UCSD on Saturday morning at the Burns Aquatic Center. The Lions fell 13-10.

The Tritons scored the first two goals of the game, but the Lions stormed back on goals from Mitrovic and David Carrasco to knot things up at 5:13.

After UCSD scored to close the first period, the Lions put up two straight goals to take their only lead of the game. Mitrovic scored the first goal of the second period before Kade Margain added another with just under five minutes left to play in the half.

The Tritons would close out the half on a 3-0 run and open the third period with two goals to score five straight and put the advantage at four goals.

Carrasco wowed the crowd when he spotted the Triton keeper too far out of the net and lobbed it into the back left corner from the halfway line.

The third period would end with two more goals from UCSD and Margain notching his second of the match.

Mitrovic would open the scoring in the fourth with a little under five minutes left. The Tritons would get one back before the Lions opted to go with seven attackers. Dalmaras was the beneficiary as he rifled the first possession of the empty net into the top corner.

He would then assist Mitrovic on the ensuing possession, who squeezed it in at the near post to decrease the deficit to two.

The Tritons would score in open play on the ensuing possession and then ice the game after a Lion possession as they fired into the empty net.

Jonny Rimlinger scored with 33 second left to mark the final score.

Dalmaras recorded five saves on 28 shots faced. The Lions put up 39 shots in the match.

They will play again on Sunday, Nov. 20 in the WWPA Third Place match, occurring at 11:00 a.m. (PT) at the Burns Aquatic Center against Santa Clara.
