Second Half Goals Stall Lions

LOS ANGELES – Despite a late first quarter lead, the score line changed for the #12 LMU Men's Water Polo team. The Lions were outscored after intermission and fell to #T-9 Princeton, 12-9.
 
The Tigers opened the game with two goals to take the first lead. Joseph Cavazos put the Lions on the board with a goal at the 3:17 mark. Blazo Mitrovic tied the game at 2-2 before Cavazos pushed the Lions ahead 3-2 with a goal with eight seconds on the clock.
 
Neither team scored in the second quarter to keep the Lions ahead by one at halftime.
 
Princeton retook the lead with a pair of goals to open the third quarter, before Bruno Salonikios tied the game at 4-all. David Carrasco pushed the Lions ahead 5-4 with his goal at the 3:49 mark. The Tigers responded with the next three goals. Mitrovic beat the clock to score with three seconds remaining to cut it to a one goal game.
 
Princeton scored the first three goals of the fourth quarter. Richie Rimlinger scored twice, and Cavazos added the final goal, but the deficit was too large.
 
Stelios Dalmaras made six saves with two steals.
 
LMU next game is Thursday in Riverside against Cal Baptist.
