LA JOLLA, Calif. – LMU men's water polo won two games on Sunday to even the team's record after the first weekend to 2-2. The Lions opened the day at the UCSD Triton Invitational with a 20-13 win over Whittier, then closed out the tournament by tripling up Westcliff, 24-8.
LMU started the day with a 7-goal first quarter against the Poets to take a 7-4 lead.
Blazo Mitrovic scored four of his game-high seven goals in the opening period.
Each team scored four goals in the second quarter and LMU went ahead 14-10 in the third quarter behind a pair of goals from
Joseph Cavazos.
Max Walsworth led the way in the fourth quarter with two of LMU's six goals as the Lions took the game, 20-13.
The Lions followed the morning win with a 24-goal outburst to defeat Westcliff.
Fourteen different Lions scored in the win, led by four goals from
Alex Marlow.
Kai Scarlet and
Milan Sarkadi added three goals apiece.
LMU never trailed in the game and held 9-1, 15-2, and 19-4 leads throughout the match.
The Lions will make their home debuts on Sunday with Pepperdine coming down the coast for a Sunday morning game. The match will begin at 11:00 a.m.
