BERKELEY, Calif. – LMU dropped a pair of games in Saturday's second day of the MPSF Invitational. The Lions opened the day with a 13-8 loss to UC San Diego before barely being edged out by UC Irvine, 13-12.
Game 1: UC San Diego 13, #17 LMU 8
Alexandros Athymaritis opened the game with a first minute goal. UC San Diego scored the next three goals to close out the period.
LMU opened the second quarter with
Blazo Mitrovic's first goal of the day, before the Tritons closed out the half with the next two.
The two sides traded the first seven goals of the second half with
Alex Marlow, Mitrovic, and Athymaritis all adding to the score line.
LMU outscored the Tritons in the fourth period, with Mitrovic starting the quarter with a goal and
Milan Sarkadi and
Kai Scarlet scoring the final two of the game.
Jeff Muller played all 32 minutes in the cage, making four saves.
Game 2: UC Irvine 13, #17 LMU 12
Jonny Rimlinger opened the game with a goal in the afternoon session. After UC Irvine tied the game,
Jack Baumgardner pushed LMU back on top with 4:20 to play in the opening period. The Anteaters scored the next two before Rimlinger tied the game at 3-all with 2:32 on the clock. UCI scored the final two goals of the first quarter to take a 5-3 advantage.
Daniel Roth cut into the deficit with the first goal of the second quarter, before Irvine converted the next two.
Blazo Mitrovic and
Alexandros Athymaritis scored a goal apiece to cut it to a 7-6 deficit. The Anteaters scored with 1:51 remaining until halftime, but Mitrovic made it a one-goal game with his goal at 1:04.
After UC Irvine opened the third quarter with a goal, Rimlinger scored two goals within a minute of each other to tie the game at 9-9 with 4:56 on the clock. UCI regained their lead heading into the final period, 10-9.
An Athymaritis goal on LMU's first possession of the fourth quarter made it a 10-all game. The 'Eaters socred the next three goals before Rimlinger and Mitrovic responded with a goal each to make it a one-score game with 47 seconds remaining. LMU could not get a shot off on their final possession, making it a 13-12 final.

LMU will close out the tournament against #18 Pomona-Pitzer at 10:00 a.m.
