FRESNO, Calif. – #19 LMU women's water polo battled on Friday afternoon and came from behind several times to tie the score in the fourth quarter before ultimately dropping a conference game to #12 Fresno State.
LMU jumped ahead in the first quarter as Taylor Enright scored the opening goal. The Bulldogs evened the score at 1-1, before Melyssa Moore converted a penalty shot to push LMU back on top. Fresno State scored the next two goals of the period to take a 3-2 advantage. Moore and Enright each scored their second goals of the quarter to give LMU the lead after one. Enright's go-ahead goal came with 11 seconds on the clock and with the Lions at even strength.
Fresno State opened the second quarter with three-straight goals, before Alena Sanchez closed the half with a goal at the 1:14 mark to make it a one-goal game heading into intermission.
Tara DeBrabander came out of the break with an equalizer to tie things at 6-6. After Fresno State went back ahead, Ryan-Marie Ickes again tied the game with her first of the day. The Bulldogs built up a two-goal lead before the senior Ickes again found the back of the cage. The home side went back ahead by two goals before Enright scored the final goal of the third quarter making it a 10-9 game entering the final eight minutes.
Risse Sanchez tied the game up again less than a minute into the fourth quarter. Despite LMU tying the score at 10-all, Fresno State scored the final three goals of the day to take the game 13-10.
LMU will remain on the road to play a final road contest on Apr. 10, before closing out the regular season at home on Apr. 17.
