WWPA Release
LOS ANGELES – LMU men's water polo has an opportunity to extend its season this weekend as the Lions embark on the Western Water Polo Association Championships in Riverside, Calif. The WWPA Tournament will open with #6 LMU and #7 California Baptist University facing off on Friday at noon, with the winner advancing to the title game against #8 Air Force.
Prior to the tournament,
Joseph Shaw was named the final WWPA Player of the Week of the season, following his season-high five goals in the final home game of his career. Shaw accounted for five of the team's eight goals in the loss to #5 Pepperdine.
The Lions and Lancers played four times already this season, with the two programs splitting the matchups. LMU did win the first game of the year over CBU, which led to the 2-seed for the Lions and the 3-seed for CBU.
With a win, LMU will face an Air Force team that got the better of the Lions in the WWPA-counting match, even though each of the two games this season went to overtime.
Both Friday and Saturday games will air on the WAC Digital Network with live stats available through theFosh.
