Men’s Water Polo Hosts San Jose State Friday; New Location for WWPA Championship Selected

LOS ANGELES – Heading into the final home game of the season, LMU has learned of a new location for the conference championship. The Lions will honor the senior class prior to Friday's home game against San Jose State, the final game at Burns Aquatics Center of the season.

The top-10 matchup features the hosts #6 Lions (3-4, 1-1 WWPA) and #t-10 Spartans (0-0). This will be San Jose State's first day of competition this spring, and will be coming to The Bluff following a morning contest at Pepperdine.

The two teams have played twice, meeting in 2015 and 2017. LMU won the only matchup in Los Angeles, a 13-9 win in 2015.

The game will be streamed on YouTube Live through the @LMULionsMWP account. Live Stats will be available on theFOSH. Links are available on the men's water polo schedule page.

The 2020-21 Western Water Polo Association (WWPA) Championship will take place Friday and Saturday, March 5-6, on the campus of California Baptist in Riverside, Calif.

All WWPA schools have been limited this season due to COVID-19 health guidelines. Three teams have made the eight-game minimum requirement to qualify for the National Collegiate Water Polo Championship at this point of the season.

As it stands now, the three-team WWPA Championship will feature a Friday matchup between No. 2-seed Loyola Marymount (3-4, 1-1 WWPA) and No. 3-seed California Baptist (4-4, 0-2 WWPA). The winner will move on to face No. 1-seed Air Force (4-5, 2-0 WWPA) on Saturday afternoon.

Game times are still to be determined. No fans will be permitted and all state, local and university health protocols will be respected by student-athletes, coaches and staff.
