LMU Athletics Announces 2022 Hall of Fame Class and Induction Weekend

LOS ANGELES - Loyola Marymount University continues the celebration of its incredible athletics legacy by introducing our Athletics Hall of Fame Class for 2022. The LMU Athletics Hall of Fame Class will be inducted into the Hall of Fame the weekend of Jan. 29. 
 
The inductees will be recognized at the men's basketball game earlier that day before the induction ceremony at 7:00 PM held in Roski Cafe located in University Hall. Ticket information will be available soon.

Alex Cowling, Women's Basketball, 2009-13
 
Alex Cowling closed out her LMU career as arguably the best player to don a Lion uniform. Upon her departure, she ranked No. 1 in the LMU career-record book in points (2,219), scoring average (17.5 ppg), field goals (823), field goal attempts (1,796), free throws (452), free-throw attempts (558), rebounds (939) and games played (127). She also ranked fifth in three-point field goals (121), seventh in three-point field goal percentage (.353), sixth in rebounding average (7.4), eighth in steals (190), fifth in starts (101) and third in minutes played (3,901). As a  four-time Preseason All-WCC selection, three-time First Team All-WCC selection, WCC Newcomer of the Year and WCC All-Freshman Team, Alex Cowling is now a 2022 LMU Athletics Hall of Fame Inductee.
 
 
Teresa Guidi, Women's Water Polo
A three-time All-American, Teresa Guidi was a four-time All-WWPA selection, earning first-team honors her final two seasons. In 2003, leading the Lions to their third straight WWPA title, Guidi was named WWPA Player of the Year. In 2004 as team captain, she helped the Lions advance to the school's first NCAA National Championship game and earned LMU's first (and only) first-team All-American honor. Guidi ranks seventh all-time in goals with 140, 12th with 55 assists, first with 256 steals, fifth in kickouts drawn with 148.
 
 
Dr. William S. Husak, Director of Athletics
Bill Husak, who was hired as Director of Intercollegiate Athletics in 1998, finished his 20th year at Loyola Marymount University in 2018. During his tenure leading LMU, Husak oversaw more conference championship winning teams (35) and NCAA postseason berths (45) than any other Athletic Director in school history. Several facilities were built in Husak's tenure including golf's short game center, the Bove Boathouse for the rowing programs, softball's Smith Field, and the Lions Athletic Center. Husak added to the student-athlete experience, grew the athletic department staff, and oversaw additional fundraising and renovation projects. Husak focused on his mission of winning championships, achieving success in the classroom through graduating all student-athletes in four years and helping them grow as individuals as they move on to the next stages of their life.
 
Betsi Metter, Women's Volleyball and Beach Volleyball
Metter was named West Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Year in 2011 and 2013, and Co-Defensive Player of the Year in 2012. Metter garnered honorable mention All-West Coast Conference honors as a sophomore, junior and senior, and finished her career as LMU's all-time leader in digs and aces, amassing 1,802 digs and 170 aces over a four-year career. The digs mark was good for fourth in WCC history at the end of her career, while the aces ranked fifth. Her .39 aces per set ranked second only to Lori Rodman (.45 from 1984-87) in the LMU record book, while her 4.10 digs per set were second only to Kerry House (4.89 from 1989-90). She Helped guide LMU to the 2012 NCAA Tournament.  Metter was also a standout in LMU's beach volleyball program, earning All-American honors and reaching the final four with partner Litara Keil in 2014. She earned another All-American honor with Sarah Sponcil in 2014-15 as a redshirt senior in beach volleyball.
 
Andres Murriagui, Men's Soccer
Andres Murriagui was a four-time All-WCC selection, earning first team honors in 2002, second team honors in 1999 and 2001, and honorable mention honors in 2000. Murriagui was named a National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) First Team All-American in 2003 and is tied for the LMU record for goals scored in a game (4 vs. Cal State LA on Sept. 28, 2001). In LMU's record book Murriagui ranks No. 5 in career points (53), No. 5 in career goals (18), No. 6 in career assists (17), No. 3 in game-winning goals (7), No. 3 in shots (172), tied for No. 2 and No. 6 in single-season assists (8 in 2004, 7 in 2002) and No. 7 in single-season shots (51 in 2000). The Lions went 42-26-8 during his four-year career and made back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances in 2001 and 2002. 
 
Tiffany Pagano, Softball
LMU softball's Tiffany Pagano is regarded as the top pitcher to ever step into the circle for the Lions. The three-time first team All-PCSC member and three-time PCSC Pitcher of the Year collected 15 PCSC Pitcher of the Week honors. A two-time NFCA All-Region Second Team, Pagano is LMU's career wins leader at 72, career complete games winner at 87, and career leader in strikeouts at 820. Pagano was named Pitcher of the Year in 2005 on the first LMU softball team to make the NCAA Tournament, then followed that with the honor of being named Pitcher of the Year in LMU's second NCAA Tournament.
 
1971 Men's Crew Team
The 1971 men's crew team recorded the fastest time on the West Coast for that season with a
time of 5:44 minutes over 2,000 meters in the South Lido Channel in Newport Harbor in April 1971, which still stands as a program and course record over 50 years later. The team recorded its best-ever Western Sprints (West Coast Championship) performance on the University of Washington's home course on Lake Washington, finishing second among American west coast crews. The Lions finished 10th in the Intercollegiate Rowing Regatta – IRA - (the
equivalent of the Intercollegiate National Rowing Championships).
 
The Members of the 1971 Men's Crew Team are Jerry Amalfitano, Larry Conley, John Haluck, Mike Mazzei, Larry McCutheon, Steven Nowinski, Mike O'Donnell, Mel Otero, Tom Petrich, and Coach John Lind.
