LMU Athletics is searching for a creative and energetic student to perform as Iggy the Mascot at athletics events, promotions, and other appearances.
The ideal candidate will have experience performing as a Mascot or acting experience. The position requires excellent non-verbal communication skills, a creative, engaging and outgoing personality, and a strong desire to work in professional sports as a brand ambassador. We look to hire 3 students with one being our main Iggy who will receive work study and priority registration.
Examples of Duties/Essential Functions:
• Performing at off-site events (i.e., LMU Athletics events, school programs, WCC tournament, private and sponsor appearances, etc.) as Iggy
• Available to work at every women's and men's basketball game home games, including holiday breaks and other athletic events as need
• Protect the brand of Iggy the Lion with a high level of professionalism, character, and trust when performing as Mascot
• Sanitize and store the costume after each performance and conduct costume maintenance, including cleaning, minor repairs, and other necessary upkeep
• Assist with other tasks on an as-needed basis
• Iggy is a part of the Spirit Squad and will receive gear and will be expected to practice with the Spirit Squad on Wednesday Mornings
• Specific Abilities:
• Creative and experienced Mascot or costumed character
• A great sense of humor when interacting with fans of all ages, especially children
• Willing to be coached to learn the personality of the character
• Possess nonverbal and improvisational skills
• Basic knowledge of basketball, volleyball, baseball and soccer
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Experience working for a high school would be helpful
• Qualification Standards:
• Flexible schedule; must be primarily available on weekends, with flexibility in regards to nights, holidays and LMU Athletics home games
• Due to the constraints of the costume, the applicant must be approximately 5'8" - 6'2"
• Requires prolonged standing; able to lift and carry up to 40 pounds, including up arena stairs
• Must be willing and able to work in outdoor conditions, including extreme heat and cold
