LOS ANGELES – The Loyola Marymount University softball team had a short day of play on Saturday, as the Lions run ruled Quinnipiac University, winning 9-1, and then had to cancel their second game of the day after a lightening delay.
"The ladies swung the bat well today," said head coach Sami Strinz-Ward. " Our pitching and defense were also solid. I was pleased with our effort today."
The Lions put their first runs on the board in the bottom of the second. Debord opened up the inning with a single down the left line, and then advanced to third after Ehlen singled to right center. Debord scored the first run for the Lions after
Lauryn Garcia singled to the left side.

Peyton Angulo was walked, and then scored after
Desiree Moreno singled to third base.
Megan Dedrick was hit by the pitch, which advanced Garcia home. The Lions closed out the second up 3-0.
LMU continued its momentum in the bottom of the third, starting with a single from Debord, who then stole second, and then advanced to third on a wild pitch. With Debord on third, Ehlen homered, collecting two RBIs.
Garcia singled to left field, and then advanced to second after
Andrea Gonzalez singled to the shortstop. Angulo singled, advancing both runners. With bases loaded, Moreno singled to right center, collecting an RBI after Garcia scored.
With bases loaded, Dedrick tripled to left center, which added three runs to the board after Moreno, Angulo and Gonzalez scored, giving the Lions a 9-0 lead.
Quinnipiac put one run on the board in the top of the fourth, but it wasn't enough to keep the game going. The Lions closed out the game after the top of the fifth on a run rule, as the team won 9-1.
Moreno went 2-2 at the plate, while Ehlen, Gonzalez and Garcia all went 2-3. The Lions had 12 total hits, while the Bobcats had three. Dedrick had four RBIs, while Moreno and Ehlen both had two.
Paulina Johnson won her first game on the mound as a Lion, pitching 3.0 innings, allowing two hits and giving up zero runs.
Linnay Wilson pitched 2.0 innings, allowing one hit and one run and collected four strikeouts.
Up next: The Lions will conclude week one of the LMU Tournament on Sunday, as they will play University of Delaware at 10:15 AM.
