As Breast Cancer Awareness Month kicks off this October, LMU athletics has announced it will again join the fight by launching the Pride in Pink initiative and hosting a number of breast cancer awareness games throughout the month and moving forward through the remainder of the athletic season.
The Pride in Pink initiative joins LMU athletics and local groups to promote the awareness of breast cancer and raise funds for the fight against breast cancer. With the help of the student-athletes, coaches, campus and community businesses, LMU plans to bring Pride in Pink to each one of our women's home events during the year. Fans are encouraged to join our student-athletes in wearing pink to our Pride in Pink games, which are listed below. Many of the contests will feature pink giveaways.
Volleyball:
Volleyball teams around the country partner with the Side-Out Foundation to promote Dig Pink. Funds raised for Side-Out go toward a clinical trial specifically for patients with stage 4 breast cancer, the most advanced form of the disease and the least funded area of research. Help Volleyball support the Side-Out foundation by donating below. We will be wearing pink ribbons and shoe laces for our Pride in Pink game.
Women's Basketball:
For the past eleven years, communities in all 50 states have hosted Play4Kay fundraisers at Women's Basketball games. Play4Kay events are about uniting the community, honoring survivors, and raising money for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund by doing something they love. Coach Yow wouldn't have it any other way. Help Women's Basketball support Play for Kay by donating below. We will be wearing pink uniforms to support Play for Kay for a game in Februar.
Softball:
Funds raised for Play4TheCure go toward the National Foundation for Cancer Research. Play4TheCure inspires young athletes and their teams to leverage their passion for sports to "Play4" loved ones affected by cancer and encourages them to actively participate in working to fund cancer research to make a difference.
