Box Score vs. Pacific
LOS ANGELES – The Lions will not have to leave Burns Aquatics Center this weekend after the first day of results finalized to open the SoCal Invitational Tournament. #13 LMU (3-6) dropped the opening game of the tournament to #4 Pacific (7-0), 19-11, on Friday.
The Lions fell behind by four goals before
Jonny Rimlinger put LMU on the board. The Tigers would extend their lead before
Blazo Mitrovic closed out the period with a goal to make it 6-2.
After Pacific opened the second quarter with a goal, Mitrovic again provided an answer, converting a 5-Meter penalty shot.
Alexandros Athymaritis would provide the only other LMU goal in the half, leaving the Lions trailing 10-4 at intermission.
In the third quarter, Athymaritis answered an early visitor's goal to keep it a six-goal difference, 11-5. Back-to-back goals by Mitrovic and
Joseph Shaw brought the difference to just five, 12-7, halfway through the period, before Pacific closed out the quarter with two unanswered to double up the Lions.
Pacific's lead grew to 16-7 before
Christian Huhn scored his first of the day.
Luke Chandler added a pair of late goals, and
Connor Settem scored his first career goal in the game's final seconds.
The result means that LMU will play #14 Princeton at noon on Saturday from Burns. Depending on results, LMU will either play #9 UC Davis or (RV) Air Force at 4:00 p.m. or 5:20 p.m.
