2018-19 Annual Report
Dear Lions Fans,
Â
Thank you. As I wrap up my first year on the bluff, I want to recognize everyone for your tremendous support. From President Snyder and the University Administration, our tremendous coaches and staff, our generous donors and our growing fan base, you have made an impact.
Â
We had a successful year across the board. Men's basketball had a historic season that saw us win the most games since the magical 1989-90 year and return to the postseason. Women's basketball had a great season, knocking off two top-25 teams and competing in the WNIT. It marked the first time in LMU history that both basketball teams competed in the postseason in the same season.
Â
One of the measures of our success will be our annual standing in the Learfield IMG College Director's Cup, which honors institutions maintaining a broad-based program, achieving success in many sports, both men's and women's. This past year we earned 100 points, placing 18th nationally amongst DI-AAA schools and 155th overall in Division I. We earned 50 points in women's volleyball, who received an at-large bid, defeated Duke in the 1st round and lost to eventual National Champion Stanford. We also received 50 points in baseball, as we made it into the NCAA Tournament, defeating overall #1 UCLA. Likewise, although they didn't receive points, our beach volleyball team after winning the WCC Tournament, finished the season ranked #10 in the country.
Â
We could not achieve the success we've had without your support. This year on LMU's annual Day of Giving, we set records and a new benchmark for the future. We had 1,952 gifts for a total of $234,173, which represented a 324% increase in the number of gifts and a 308% increase in the total amount raised.
Â
The Day of Giving is only the beginning, as we anticipate in the coming year to launch a strategic plan and facilities plan that will transform LMU Athletics. The LMU Athletic Department is centered on four pillars: Recruit, Teach, Win, and Graduate. We will recruit the very best in all 21 NCAA sports we compete in. We will teach in the university's mission of Cura Personalis, caring for our student-athlete's mind, body, and spirit. We will win and compete nationally. We will graduate our student-athletes and prepare them to make an impact in creating the world we want to live in.
Â
Thanks again for your support, if for some reason I haven't had an opportunity to meet you, please introduce yourself. We will only be able to accomplish our ambitious dreams through you.
Â
GO LIONS!
