Lions Drop First Game of NISC

RENO, Nev., -- The Loyola Marymount softball team opened up the first game of the NISC regionals against host school Nevada, where the Lions put up a fight, but fell to the Wolf Pack 4-3 on Thursday.

Nevada opened up the top of the first inning with a run, and then put another run on the board in the third and fourth innings, while LMU went scoreless until the bottom of the fourth.

Down 3-0, the Lions answered back after Maddison Flores hit a double to left center. With a runner on second, Delanie Wisz hit her seventh homerun of the season, putting two runs on the board.

Down 3-2, Nevada extended its lead in the top of the fifth after scoring one more run. The Lions answered back, as Wisz hit her eight homerun of the season and the second one of the game, but it wasn't enough, as both teams went scoreless in the seventh inning, giving the Wolf Pack the win.

The Lions had four total hits compared to Nevada's eight. Wisz went 2-3 at the plate, while Megan Dedrick and Flores went 1-3.

Hannah Bandimere started for the Lions and pitched 3.0 innings, while allowing six hits and three runs. Samantha Manti came in for the last 4.0 innings and allowed two hits and one run. Manti had eight strikeouts while Bandimere had three.

The Lions will play UC Riverside on Friday at 10:00 a.m. The Highlanders dropped their game against Fresno State on Thursday 18-10.
