LOS ANGELES, Calif., -- Loyola Marymount softball player
Hannah Bandimere pitched a no-hitter in the Lions' 8-0 shutout against Western Carolina (8-9) Saturday afternoon.
Bandimere pitched a five-inning no-hitter, the first of her career, picking up her eighth win of the season and leading the Lions (11-9) to their third shutout of the season.
"We had a nice day of redemption," said head coach Sami Strinz Ward. "I couldn't be prouder of Hannah throwing her first career no-hitter. She was an error away from a perfect game. I just love the way she competes. I was also really pleased with our hitters making adjustments and driving the ball so well. Great team effort!"
Both teams went scoreless for the first three innings, and it wasn't until the fourth the Lions got the first run on the board after
Andrea Gonzalez was walked and then stole second base,
Riley Ehlen hit a double, sending Gonzalez home.
Up 1-0, the Lions headed to the fifth where they gained momentum and dominated the game, scoring seven more runs.
Delanie Wisz set the tone, as she was first up to bat in the inning and hit a single, which was followed by a double from
Megan Dedrick.
Kaley Robinson got the RBI when she singled to send Wisz home. Robinson stole second and then advanced to third on the throw, while Dedrick scored on a throwing error.
Maddison Flores pinch hit for
Sierra Marshall and advanced to first on an error, giving Robinson a run.
Up 4-0, the Lions continued to dominate the fifth.
Irma Sanchez hit a single to advance Flores to second, and then to third after
Molly Grumbo grounded out.
Flores got an unearned run on an error, which was followed by a single from Gonzalez that sent Sanchez home, giving the Lions a 6-0 lead.
Ehlen got her second RBI of the game after she hit a single that allowed Gonzalez to get a run. Ehlen advanced to second after
Taylor Keinath singled, and then scored the last run of the game after Dedrick hit a single. The Lions closed out the game at the bottom of the fifth.
