LOS ANGELES, Calif., -- The Loyola Marymount softball team split on Tuesday, as the team picked up a 3-2 win over Harvard and fell to Boise State after a sixth inning rally, 14-6.
The Lions (18-12) started the day off against Harvard, where both of the teams went scoreless for three innings. In the bottom of the fourth, the Lions changed the pace of the game after a single that was hit from
Riley Ehlen and then a double from
Hailey Jackson, which advanced Ehlen to third.
A single from
Molly Grumbo sent Ehlen and Jackson home, giving the Lions a quick 2-0 lead. With two RBIs, Grumbo then scored after
Megan Dedrick hit a single.
Harvard responded in the sixth inning with two runs, one being unearned. Neither team scored for the rest of the game, giving the Lions their 18
thwin on the season.
The Crimson had two total hits compared to the Lions' 10. Jackson went 2-3 at the plate, while
Andrea Gonzalez and Kaley Robsinson went 2-4, Grumbo went 1-2 and
Megan Dedrick and Ehlen went 1-3. Grumbo led in RBIs with two.
Samantha Manti picked up her sixth win of the season after pitching 5.2 innings, only allowing two hits and two runs, while
Linnay Wilson came in to pitch 1.1 hitless, scoreless innings.
The Lions went straight into their second game of the day after the win to take on Boise State for the second time this season.
The Lions struggled for the first three innings, as they went scoreless while Boise State put up nine runs. After the Broncos scored their 10thrun in the fourth inning, the Lions rallied and had a six run inning.
Gonzalez was first to get on the board after a single from Ehlen, which advanced
Delanie Wisz to third. Wisz then scored after a single from
Desiree Moreno. Ehlen put the third run on the board after Grumbo reached first base on an error, advancing Jackson to second.
With the bases loaded,
Irma Sanchez reached first base on an error, which sent
Sierra Marshall and Jackson in for two more runs. Grumbo was the last to score for the Lions after a sacrifice fly from
Megan Dedrick.
The Broncos put four more runs on the board while the Lions weren't able to get another run, falling to Boise State for the second time this season.
The Lions had six total hits compared to Boise State's 19. Sanchez led in RBIs with two, while Jackson went 2-3 at the plate.
The Lions will be back in action on Thursday to host Cal State Fullerton in a double-header. The Lions went 2-2 with the Titans last season and are 5-18 against CSUF all-time.
The team's first matchup with be on Thursday at noon with a 2:30 p.m. game to follow.
