Lions Close Out LMU Tournament With a Win

LOS ANGELES, Calif., -- The Loyola Marymount softball team shutout Dartmouth in its last game of the LMU Tournament Sunday morning, as the Lions beat the Big Green 6-0. 
 
The Lions came out strong in the first inning, with Kaley Robinson scoring the first run after Irma Sanchez hit a single. 
 
Up 1-0 in the bottom of the second, the Lions gained even more momentum, scoring three more runs.  Hailey Jackson got two RBIs after she hit a single and then and then advanced on a throw, which sent Andrea Gonzalez and Riley Ehlen home. 
 
Jackson stole third, and then scored a run after Delanie Wisz hit a sacrifice fly, giving the Lions a 4-0 lead against Dartmouth. 
 
The Lions didn't score in the third, but came out in the fourth with the same momentum, scoring two more runs. Robinson scored the first run of the inning after Sanchez was reached on a fielder's choice and then advanced to second on the throw. 
 
A single from Flores would advance Megan Dedrick home, giving the Lions their 6-0 shutout, as both teams went scoreless the rest of the game. 
 
The Lions had six total hits compared to the Big Green's five. Jackson led the team in RBIs with two, while going 1-2 at the plate. Molly Grumbo also went 1-2, while Gonzalez went 1-3. 
 
Samantha Manti pitched a seven-inning shutout and only allowed five hits, picking up her fifth win of the season. 
 
The Lions' win over Dartmouth was their third win of the second weekend of the tournament. 
 
The Lions had fallen to Illinois 2-5 on Saturday, picking up their second loss of the tournament. The Lions scored the first run of the game, as Irma Sanchez sent Robinson home after she hit a single. 
 
Illinois responded in the fourth inning with one run to tie things up, but the Lions took the lead back after Ehlen hit a double to send Sanchez home. 
 
Up 2-1, Illinois scored a run in the top of the seventh to tie things up, forcing an eighth inning and winning the game after scoring three runs. 
 
The Lions had nine total hits compared to Illinois' eight. Hannah Bandimere pitched 7.1 innings and allowed six hits and five runs. Linnay Wilson pitched .2 innings and allowed two hits and zero runs. 
 
The Lions continue their homestand, as they will host Boise State and Harvard this Tuesday, and then Cal State Fullerton on Thursday and Friday.
