LMU continued to post strong GSR numbers in the latest announcement from the NCAA on Wednesday, surpassing last year's overall mark of 92 with a new mark of 94.
"LMU student-athletes have once again set high standards academically and athletically, and we are proud have be among the nation's top institutions for Graduation Success Rate." Said Athletic Director
Craig Pintens. "Our athletic department is driven by our student-athletes and their successes in competition and in the classroom is evident. We appreciate the tremendous academic support staff for their outstanding work in helping us maintain this academic standard."
This year marks the seventh straight time in the 14-year history of the metric that LMU has reached or exceeded 90 percent, and the 11
thstraight year the campus has posted a mark of 88 percent or higher.
GSR data indicates the number of student-athletes earning a degree within six years. The NCAA developed the GSR to more accurately assess the academic success of student-athletes. The Graduation Success Rate includes transfer students and student-athletes who leave in good academic standing, unlike the federal rate, which does not count transfers. The GSR also accounts for mid-year enrollees and is calculated for every sport.
The most recent Graduation Success Rates are based on the four entering freshmen classes in Division I from 2009 through 2012.
Overall, LMU's GSR rate of 94 percent is five percent better than the NCAA average of 89 percent. In this most recent data, 15 LMU teams recorded marks of 86 percent or better. Every one of LMU's teams are above the fed rate.
Eight LMU teams registered perfect 100 GSR marks, including men's golf, men's soccer, men's tennis, men's and women's cross country and track, women's swimming, women's tennis, and women's water polo. The perfect score is the eighth straight for women's water polo, the sixth straight for women's tennis, the fifth straight swimming, the fourth straight for golf and women's cross country and track, and the third straight for men's soccer
In addition to those perfect GSR programs, baseball, water polo, women's basketball, women's rowing, women's soccer, softball, and women's volleyball all equaled or improved their GSR score from the previous year.
Of the 24 Division I schools in California, LMU's rate of 94 percent is second overall behind Stanford at 97. The West Coast Conference shows well in the GSR standings, as the Lions are one of seven member schools that are at or above 90 percent, and tied for second overall.
