LOS ANGELES – It was a wire-to-wire win for the Loyola Marymount men's water polo team on Saturday. The Lions (4-6, 2-1 WWPA) took a 7-0 lead into halftime and never looked back, topping Fresno Pacific (0-11, 0-3 WWPA), 10-2.
Daniel Arellano opened the scoring and finished with two first quarter goals.
Joseph Shaw scored his first of three goals in the first quarter as LMU led 3-0 after one.
Shaw scored each of the first two goals of the second quarter to push LMU ahead 5-0 and give himself a game-high three goals.
Blazo Mitrovic and
Eric Reitmeir added a goal apiece before the half as the Lions pushed it to a 7-0 lead in front of the home fans.
Fresno Pacific got on the board to open the third quarter before Mitrovic scored his second of the day.
Austin Clark added to game-high three assists with a goal of his own to close out the period on the converted powerplay.
Each team scored once in the fourth quarter to make it a 10-2 final.
The LMU defense was perfect defend the man advantage, allowing no goals on FPU's seven powerplay opportunities.
The Lions take a break from conference play with two out-of-region home games this upcoming week. LMU hosts Iona on Oct. 4 and Navy on Oct. 7, with both games played at Burns Aquatics Centers.
