WESTWOOD, Calif. – Loyola Marymount men's water polo kept battling with the second-ranked UCLA Bruins, last season's national champions. The Lions (2-5), backed by four goals by
Blazo Mitrovic, fell to UCLA 14-8 on Saturday.

UCLA jumped ahead early, scoring all three goals in the first quarter. LMU got on the board as Mitrovic scored less than a minute and a half into the second quarter. The Bruins closed out the half with two more to take a 5-1 advantage into intermission.

After the home team built up their lead to 8-1,
Scott Thomas gave LMU their second of the day. UCLA answered with two more before back-to-back goals from Mitrovic then
Daniel Arellano made it a 10-4 goal with 1:22 remaining in the quarter. The two teams traded goals to close out the quarter with Mitrovic scoring his third of the day with six seconds remaining on the clock.

The Bruins opened the final period with a goal before Mitrovic again responded, scoring his fourth and cutting LMU's deficit to 12-6. After UCLA scored two straight, the Lions closed out the game with the final two goals, both scored by
Alexandros Athymaritis to make it a 14-8 final.

LMU will make their 2018 home debut on Sept. 22 as the Lions square off against Air Force in the first WWPA match of the season at Burns Aquatic Center.
