Los Angeles, CA (November 20, 2001) - The good news keeps piling up for the Loyola Marymount University aquatics program, which dedicated its brand new scoreboard at the Burns Recreation Center Aquatics Complex on Tuesday afternoon. The LMU Lions Scoreboard is dedicated in memory of B. Ann Gersten, the mother of Albert Gersten, and was donated by the Albert Gersten Family.
"The Gersten Family has been a very important part of the athletic programs here at LMU and supporting our students and athletes has always been in Al Gersten's heart," said Athletic Director Bill Husak. "We are honored to have the Gersten name linked to another aspect of our athletic facilities." The Lions' main facility, Gersten Pavilion, which contains the athletic offices and is home to LMU volleyball and basketball, bears the family's name.
The Lions unveiled the scoreboard at the Western Water Polo Association Men's Water Polo conference championships at the Burns Recreation Center last weekend. The Colorado Timing Systems' board is 11-foot by 12-foot and features a single color LED full matrix display. The 96 x 80 pixel unit displays swimming, diving, water polo, pace clock and sycrhonized swimming functions. Competitors names, full matrix graphics and animation with advertising capability are a part of the scoreboard.
On Sunday the scoreboard was in good use, as the Lions advanced to the NCAA Men's Water Polo Championships with a 4-2 win over UC San Diego in the championship game of the conference tournament. It is the first ever conference title and final four appearance by the men's water polo team.
The men's water polo team will play on Saturday, Dec. 1 and Sunday, Dec. 2 in the NCAA Water Polo Championships at Stanford University. For more information, go online at www.LMULions.com.
