NCAA GSR Breakdown
LMU continued to post strong GSR numbers in the latest announcement from the NCAA on Wednesday, matching last year's overall mark of 92.
"LMU student-athletes continually set high standards academically and athletically, and we are proud to be among the nation's leaders in Graduation Success Rate." Said Athletic Director Craig Pintens. "Our athletic department is centered on student-athletes, with pillars of recruit, teach, win and graduate. We will continue to enhance our resources to provide the best possible experience while developing men and women for others. We appreciate the tremendous academic support staff for their outstanding work in living these ideals."
This year marks the sixth straight time in the 13-year history of the metric that LMU has reached or exceeded 90 percent, and the 10
thstraight year the campus has posted a mark of 88 percent or higher.
GSR data indicates the number of student-athletes earning a degree within six years. The NCAA developed the GSR to more accurately assess the academic success of student-athletes. The Graduation Success Rate includes transfer students and student-athletes who leave in good academic standing, unlike the federal rate, which does not count transfers. The GSR also accounts for mid-year enrollees and is calculated for every sport.
The most recent Graduation Success Rates are based on the four entering freshmen classes in Division I from 2008 through 2011.
Overall, LMU's GSR rate of 92 percent is seven percent better than the NCAA average of 85 percent. In this most recent data, 14 LMU teams recorded marks of 86 percent or better. Every one of LMU's teams are above the fed rate.
Six LMU teams registered perfect 100 GSR marks, including men's golf, men's soccer, cross country and track, women's swimming, women's tennis, and women's water polo. The perfect score is the seventh straight for women's water polo, the fifth straight for women's tennis, the fourth straight swimming, and the third straight for golf and women's cross country and track.
In addition to those perfect GSR programs, men's basketball, men's cross country and track, men's tennis, and women's soccer all equaled or improved their GSR score from the previous year.
Of the 24 Division I schools in California, LMU's rate of 92 percent is second overall behind Stanford at 97. The West Coast Conference shows well in the GSR standings, as the Lions are one of eight member schools that are at or above 90 percent.
