PALO ALTO, Calif. – On the final day of the Nor Cal Mountain Pacific Invitational, Loyola Marymount placed 12
thof the 16 teams. The Lions (7-9) dropped their 11
th-place game matchup with #12 UC Irvine (7-9), 17-10.
The Anteaters built up a 3-0 advantage in the first, before it was
Daniel Arellano's goal with two minutes remaining in the opening quarter that put LMU on the board.
UCI repeated their start in the second quarter, scoring the first three goals of that period as well.
Daniel Roth scored for the Lions at the 4:55 mark, but two more Irvine goals made it an 8-2 deficit at halftime.
Eric Reitmeir scored the opening goal of the second half. After UCI added another, Reitmeir responded with his second of the quarter to make it a 9-4 game. The 'Eaters extended their lead to 12-4 before
Alexandros Athymaritis got on the board for LMU with 1:36 remaining in the period. UCI scored once more, putting the Lions in a 13-5 deficit heading into the final eight minutes.
LMU outscored UCI 5-4 in the fourth, sparked by four consecutive goals that turned a 14-5 game into a 14-9 game with 4:20 pm the clock. Athymaritis scored twice in that stretch, with
Andrew Koustoumbardis and Arellano each scoring one apiece. The 'Eaters strung together three of their own before Roth scored on the final LMU possession to make it a 17-10 final.
The Lions shift focus to their next competition, the Santa Clara Rodeo Invitational next weekend in Santa Clara.
